Step 5: Show, Don’t Tell lesson plan – Use the Five + 1 Senses to paint a vivid word picture of a place. After you model the technique, students undertake a group activity and an individual activity before sharing their work with other students. This lesson plan uses the Gradual Release Model: I Do, We Do, You Do, and includes relevant links to the Australian Curriculum, plus a learning intention, success criteria and differentiation ideas to assist with planning and assessment.
Step 5: Show, Don’t Tell template – Improve your students’ descriptive writing so that they ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’ their reader what they did during the holidays. Students write and draw in the template to describe their holiday using the Five + 1 Senses. This resource helps students to engage the reader by painting word pictures and making them feel like they are right there in the moment.
